Ireland myth #1: Rolling hills are everywhere.
Champlain Abroad Dublin‘s Academic Center and student apartments are located in the heart of Ireland’s biggest city! While Dublin is not exactly like New York or Boston, there is still quite a bit of hustle and bustle. With hustle and bustle comes public transportation and with public transportation comes adventures!
In just the short amount of time I’ve been here, I’ve discovered just how easy it is to get out of the city and into the scenic views Ireland is known for. (Ireland is dubbed the Emerald Isle after all) With 6 euros and a bit of time on your hands, you can hop on a train and explore a new village or town along the coastline.
One sunny Friday, four other Champlain Abroad students and myself packed our bags and headed north to visit Howth (rhymes with both) for its famous cliff walk. Howth is a village roughly 40 minutes away from Dublin and boy, is it wonderful. The cliff walk is one of the best ways to see Dublin Bay, Howth Castle and Lambay Island as well as huge patches of pretty wildflowers.
There are 4 trails you can follow, all of varying lengths. It takes a few hours to do the walk in full, but it is absolutely worth it. Howth is one of the prettiest places I have ever been to! Not only that, but getting gelato at Amore after your hike is a pretty sweet highlight too. There’s so much to do and see in Ireland and I can’t wait to see what pretty places I discover next!
